Author and advocate Bev Sellars formerly served as councilor and chief of Xatśūll (Soda Creek) First Nation in British Columbia. Her memoir, They Called Me Number One, about her experiences in the residential institution St. Joseph’s Mission, formed a key part of the research for the play 1939, which receives its world première at the Festival this season. Hear her story and her thoughts on how to move with truth toward reconciliation.
