Alan Menken, celebrated composer of Little Shop of Horrors and such Disney classics as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, and company member Marion Adler talk about their long-time partnership and their musical collaboration Little Pinks, based on the Damon Runyon short story of the same name. This intimate concert features songs from Little Pinks performed by members of the company, and a discussion with the creators on the joys and challenges of writing new musicals.

Alan Menken

Legendary composer Alan Menken has created some of the most beloved songs and musical scores of our time, with his unique voice as a composer capturing the imagination of audiences for over 35 years. Known for his music on stage and screen, he is noted for his multiple works with the Walt Disney company (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin), as well as Broadway stage musicals Sister Act and Little Shop of Horrors. With eight Academy Awards, Alan has received more Oscars than any living person, and is the recipient of numerous other awards including Golden Globes, Grammys, Drama Desk Awards, and a Tony Award.

Marion Adler

Marion Adler has been writing for the musical theatre since she arrived in Stratford in 1985. She has written or contributed lyrics to seven musicals, and numerous reviews and song cycles. With husband Scott Wentworth and composer Craig Bohmler, she wrote Gunmetal Blues and Enter the Guardsman. Both were produced off-Broadway and Enter the Guardsman in the West End as well (Olivier Award nomination for Best New Musical). Gunmetal Blues has been produced across North America and Europe; Enter the Guardsman was the most produced new musical in the U.S.A. in the 2001-2002 season and enjoyed a full-season run at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Marion is a winner of the prestigious Kleban Award for her body of work as a lyricist. At the Stratford Festival she has written lyrics for Pericles (2015) and The Merry Wives of Windsor (2019).
