What's in a Genre? Shakespeare's Late Romances

PEER INTO THE PLAYBILL

WHAT'S IN A...GENRE? SHAKESPEARE'S LATE ROMANCES

Lazaridis Hall, Tom Patterson Theatre
Thursday, August 8, 2024
10:30 a.m. to noon

Cymbeline has been called a tragedy, a comedy, and even a tragicomedy, though nowadays many refer to it as one of Shakespeare's "late romances". In this panel, University of Toronto Professor Holger Syme, McGill University Professor Paul Yachnin and Western University Professor MJ Kidnie discuss these "tragedies that end happily", the usefulness of categorizing Shakespeare and how these late plays help us understand Shakespeare's life.
