He is currently Chair of the Rideau Hall Foundation, a registered charity he established to support the Office of the Governor General. A professor of law for more than 30 years, Mr. Johnston served as President of several educational institutions, including the University of Waterloo. He has also served on many provincial and federal task forces and committees, as well as public companies. Trust: Twenty Ways to Build a Better Country A much-needed manual for the repair and restoration of the social quality on which all democracies rely, this book outlines twenty ways in which Canadians can make themselves, their institutions and their country more worthy of trust. Many of Mr. Johnston’s proposals – whether addressed to individuals, to leaders or to society as a whole – stem from his seven years of experience as the representative of Canada’s head of state.
