After the devastating cancellation of our 2020 season, we
are taking great delight in planning an exciting pandemic-friendly season for
this year.
As the situation dictates, our plans are a work in
progress: the safety of our patrons, artists and staff is always our first
priority, and that responsibility informs every aspect of our planning. We
cannot simply mount the
playbill we had prepared for 2020; while we hope to present those works in future years,
our immediate focus must be on repertoire that lends itself to production in
the current extraordinary circumstances.
We must also
ensure that the venues we open will continue, in an ever-evolving situation, to
meet the directives of public-health authorities. Our challenge is to mount a
season that conforms to the need for physical distancing and other
pandemic-era realities, while
still offering an unparalleled theatrical experience.
With every
challenge comes opportunity. The pandemic has forced us to re-examine every
assumption about our art, to explore every conceivable option, to ask ourselves
profound questions about the essence of our work and the nature of the bond
between artist and audience. Those are the kinds of challenges that spark
innovation, adventure, new creative energy.
The
cancellation of our 2020 season will always leave an aching void in our hearts.
But as we look ahead to welcoming
you back this year,
and to the new possibilities
this brings, we feel a
great affinity with our founders and their undaunted pioneering spirit.
We thank you for standing
by us and look forward to unveiling our plans for 2021 in the coming months.
