Actors are both the face and the heart of the Festival’s productions. The opportunities and challenges of the Festival’s repertory structure are unique, and the organization has a variety of systems in place to support artists’ creativity and health throughout the season. The Company Manager, Hilary Nichol is available to answer questions, hnichol@stratfordfestival.ca or 226-921-0459.

The Stratford Festival strongly encourages the acting company to attend performances of all productions, but we appreciate your understanding that complimentary tickets may not always be available since the Festival must meet income goals to ensure its continued health. This ticket policy aims to achieve a reasonable balance of these two goals and to provide a clear understanding of the ticket options available to company members. We realize that frustrations are bound to arise from any policy that tries to address a wide variety of circumstances, so we welcome your suggestions, which should be submitted in writing to your Company Manager.
OPENING NIGHT TICKETS
(a) Openings of productions in which you appear: you will receive a pair of comps in the Festival and Avon theatres, or one comp ticket for productions in the Tom Patterson and Studio Theatres. Please be in touch with your Company Manager as soon as possible to confirm whether or not you will be using these tickets on Opening Night, as any unused tickets must be distributed to ensure a full house. You will receive your contractual comp tickets via e-mail in April.
(b) Openings of productions in which you do not appear: The Festival is eager to have Company Members attend Opening Night performances, but as you would imagine availability on Opening Nights is limited, particularly in the smaller theatres. If you are interested in attending one of these performances, please see your Company Manager as early as possible to add your name to an Opening Night Waiting List for Comps. Please keep in mind that we may not be able to confirm complimentary tickets in advance, so you may receive confirmation up to the afternoon on the day of the performance. You will receive the tickets by e-mail.
This privilege is only available to members of our company for their personal use.
If you would like to request additional guest tickets for the Opening of any production, please see your Company Manager about purchasing. Staff can purchase Opening Night tickets directly online for 50% off in B and Bravo seating (when available). The Company Manager can also add your name to the comp waiting list. Keep in mind that company members on the comp waiting list will be accommodated before any guests. Also, keep in mind that comp tickets may be anywhere in the theatre or not available at all.
This policy applies only to productions on the Festival’s 2024 playbill. Ticketing for other events, such as The Forum and The Laboratory, readings, etc. will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and no staff rates are available other than Forum walk ins.
Please keep in mind that your chances of securing the tickets you want will always be better in the larger venues. If you must have tickets for family or friends for a specific performance, we strongly advise that you purchase or make arrangements as far in advance as possible.
Ticket information was provided by Michael Adams, January 2025
The Festival offers access to a large pool of medical resources to draw upon for help if actors are ill or injured. We do not have a company doctor on staff but there are family doctors in our community that will see artists for acute illnesses. Please note these connections are not intended to provide you with a new family doctor. There is a shortage of family doctors in Ontario and our connections in town have their own patients to see in addition to voluntarily helping us when a situation arises. Actors will make their own decisions regarding seeing health professionals and preferred methods of treatment, but since many actors are new to the area, the Festival can offer assistance and guidance in these matters upon request. The Company Manager and Coaching team can provide information about the local health practitioners that may be a good fit for an individual personally, and the Company Manager can book appointments.

This policy, for Canadian Actors’ Equity Association members only, now provides benefits for illness and work-related accidents through Crawford & Company. It is not intended to replace Ontario Health coverage but, in the event of an accident, injury, or illness, to provide additional benefits. In addition to payments for loss of life, limb, sight, and certain extraordinary medical expenses, the policy insures your earnings up to a specified level for lost time due to accident or illness. Reimbursement is to the client, not the physician or hospital. This means that you must pay the bill, get a receipt and submit a claim using the online portal to Crawford & Company. If you have questions about your specific coverage or claims please call +1-888-688-4344.
Every artist must have a working telephone (landline or cell phone) where messages can be left. Stage Management frequently needs to contact artists to advise them of changes to the daily schedule and emergency rehearsals on short notice. Please be mindful of our shared spaces (dressing rooms etc.) and the work going on in rehearsal halls by turning your phone to silent when in these spaces.
Aside from using Google, the Festival has many resources available to you for research. There is a small library on the admin level of the Festival Theatre (no membership required), The Archives on Brunswick Street and the Stratford Public Library. If you need assistance accessing these resources please speak to the Company Manager.
The Marketing Department is keen on promoting you and the Festival. There may be opportunities to participate in Instagram Takeovers and other events.
If you need photocopies for work-related or personal use, in small quantities please contact the Company Manager.
